Although it’s one of the most popular dating apps, Hinge is, in fact, NOT global; it’s unavailable in many countries, and people have had enough!
If you want to dip your toes into the humongous dating pool of Hinge but can’t due to geo-restrictions, follow along as I explain how you, too, can install the app.
What countries is Hinge available in?
Shockingly, Hinge is not available in every country, particularly in sanctioned ones or countries with strict government laws.
But, if you’re from the following, good news! Hinge is available in the following countries…
- Australia, Austria;
- Belgium;
- Canada;
- Denmark;
- Finland, France;
- Germany, Greece;
- India, Ireland, Israel, Italy;
- Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway;
- Portugal;
- Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland;
- Turkey;
- UK;
- USA.
As for unavailability, Hinge will likely not work if you’re from…
- UAE;
- China;
- Russia;
- Malaysia;
- Ghana;
- North Korea;
- South Korea;
- Pakistan;
- Albania;
- Estonia;
- Croatia;
- Lithuania
- Romania;
- Hungary;
- Czech Republic.
Luckily, though, it has more to do with your settings rather than your actual geographical location. If you want to get the app, you’d need to do some tweaking. Here’s how…
1. Manually change the App Store/Google Play region
Countries in which Hinge is unavailable remove it completely from the App Store or Google Play, so people from said countries don’t even get the option to install it.
In this case, what you need to do is change the region *within* the virtual store into a country supported by Hinge (refer to the list above!).
→ For iPhone, iOS: Go to the App Store, tap on your profile (top right), and press on Country/Region. Scroll down to or manually type the country name.

→ For Samsung, Android: Open the Google Play Store, and move over to the menu (top left), then go to Account, and select Country.

However, because your apps depend on where they’ve been installed from, you may be prompted to cancel your existing subscriptions or at least find a way to move them over.
This fixes the “not available in your country” error, especially if you’re currently in a country where Hinge should be available; your App Store/Google Play account is bound to your home country, preventing you from installing Hinge.
– But then we have the issue of the region in which your phone number is set, which DatingZest can help with.
Just pick a phone number from a country that Hinge is available in (you can pick from a hefty menu!), and regardless of where you’re from, you’ll be in line to meet the love of your life.
2. Open a separate Apple ID
If you have an iPhone, you know just how domino-like the relationship between the Apple ID and apps is. Changing your Apple ID requires you to reinstall the same apps (already on your device, mind you) for a second time.
It’s inconvenient, but if Hinge doesn’t work in your country, make a new Apple ID, set it to a different region, and switch over to that one whenever you want to use Hinge.
Even better if you have a second iPhone to do this on because it saves you the hassle! The important thing is that your other apps’ data is retained.
3. Install the Hinge APK if you have an Android

APK is what Android uses to distribute and install apps. It contains the elements of the original app that may be installed outside of the Google Store.
So, if you were to install the APK version of Hinge, you’d get a (nearly) identical copy, but with some caveats if you do so from shady sources:
- Privacy concerns;
- Malware;
- No automatic updates;
- In-app bugs.
You need to enable installations from unknown sources first: open Settings, go to Apps, Advanced, press Install Unknown Apps, and toggle on the sources (e.g., Chrome).
APKPure and APKMirror are among the most popular and trustworthy ones, so consider giving them a try if everything else fails.
How effective are VPNs?
Not to burst your bubble, but if you’ve already ranked the top 3 VPNs you’re thinking of using to solve this issue, hold your horses.
What VPNs do is change your IP Address, and since the problem lies in the fact you can’t install the app, that won’t help much. You still won’t see the app.
What if you want to use Hinge while traveling?
You don’t want to miss out on that Hinge fun while you’re using up your PTO traveling to Europe? Understandable, but there are a few things to know regarding geo-restrictions.
1. Check if the country you’re traveling to allows Hinge
If it doesn’t, you probably won’t be able to use the app; it might not launch at all, but will still remain installed on your phone.
2. You might run into frequent errors
If your account info is mismatched (e.g., Hinge account location vs. device location), Hinge could flag your account as suspicious and make the app glitchy…or so people report.
And if Hinge blacklists you, problems like shadowbanning are plausible. Just something to watch out for!
3. Change the location in your app (if you want to)
Hinge doesn’t automatically change your location when you move around, so you have to open the app, go to your account settings, and do it yourself.
If you want to like the local cuties, change the location to the country you’re currently in. If you want to find people in your home country, then keep it as is!
4. Be careful with your phone number and payment method
It’s always a good idea for your payment method to be valid in the country you’re in, and for your phone number to have the correct country code.
Otherwise, you could have issues with Hinge features: payment, matches, editing your profile, and more.
– If you go back to your old region…
Just make sure everything is in line. ‘
- If you changed your App Store or Google Play region…
Going back to your original region is a bit risky because Hinge may (or may not, it’s a bit of a grey area) pick up on the fact that something’s off.
For instance, contradictions like if your phone number has a different country code from the location you picked for your account could cause the app to act up.
- If you returned from abroad…
And you want to continue using the app in your hometown, change your location and phone number settings back (if you changed them while you were away).
On the other hand, if you were somewhere where Hinge isn’t available, launch the app to test if everything is back to normal. If not, delete the app and reinstall it. Contact Hinge Support if any issues persist!
