Lost access to your old phone number? You can still recover your Tinder account.
The key: you do NOT need your old number to regain access. You can replace it during the recovery process.
Here’s exactly how it works.
Step 1: Start Account Recovery Using Your Email

If you can’t log in because your phone number changed:
- Open the Tinder app or go to Tinder.com
- Tap Log In
- Select Trouble Logging In?
- Enter the email address linked to your Tinder account
- Open your inbox and click the recovery link
If you don’t see the email, check spam or promotions.
Step 2: When Tinder Asks for a Phone Number
This is where most people get confused. After clicking the recovery link, Tinder may ask you to enter a phone number.
You do NOT need your old phone number. You can enter your new phone number at this stage.
Tinder will send an SMS verification code to the new number.
Once you enter that code:
- Your old number is removed
- Your new number becomes linked to your account
- You can log in normally using the new number from now on
You will not be asked for the old number again.
3. Update Your Phone Number Inside Settings (If Logged In)
If you still have access to your account:
- Go to Profile
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Account Settings
- Tap Phone Number → Update My Phone Number
- Enter your new number
- Complete SMS verification
After verification, the new number fully replaces the old one.
4. Link Backup Login Methods (Very Important)
This is what should always be mentioned.
Once you regain access:
- Go to Profile → Settings
- Scroll to Login Methods
- Link at least one of the following:
- Apple ID
Why this matters:
If you ever lose your phone number again, you can log in using Apple, Google, or Facebook instead of going through recovery.
This prevents future lockouts.
5. What If You Don’t Have Email Access?
If you lost:
- Your old phone number
- And access to the linked email
You must contact Tinder Support directly.
Automatic recovery requires at least one verified access method.
How to Recover a Tinder Account After Deleting It
Deleted your Tinder account and want it back? Recovery depends on how long ago you deleted it.
Here’s how it works.
1. If You Deleted It Less Than 90 Days Ago
Tinder keeps your data for 90 days after deletion. This is called the “restore window.”
How to restore:
- Open Tinder or go to Tinder.com
- Sign up again using your previous credentials
- Same phone number
- Same email
- Or same Apple/Google/Facebook login
If your account is within the 90-day window, Tinder will restore basic profile information.
What can be restored:
- Name
- Age
- Gender
What cannot be restored:
- Matches
- Messages
- Photos
- Verification badge
Those are permanently deleted.
2. If More Than 90 Days Have Passed
After 90 days, most of your data is permanently removed.
You must:
- Create a brand-new Tinder account
- Set up your profile from scratch
There is no way to recover old matches or conversations after this period.
3. Face Check Verification & Restore Your Subscription
If Face Check is required in your region:
- If you recreate your account within 30 days, you usually won’t need to redo Face Check
- After 30 days, you’ll be asked to complete verification again
Verification data is deleted after 30 days.
If you previously had Tinder Plus, Gold, or Platinum:
- Log into your restored or new account
- Go to Settings
- Tap Restore Purchase
If it doesn’t restore automatically, contact Tinder Support with proof of purchase.
