There’s a green dot you’ve been seeing on Tinder.
Exactly what that green dot is, and how you can use it in your favor and other details will be explained in the article below.
Let’s find out, shall we?

What Does The Green Dot on Tinder Mean?
As you probably assumed, the green got or the green circle you to see indicates that that profile has been recently active.
It is that green dot you see next to a profile, and next to your Likes You (which in fact you can use in your favor).
As we always do here on DatingZest, we’ll get straight to the point:
Recently Active on Tinder
You already understood that the green dot you see next to the profile name can be seen by basically all of the Tinder users.
It does NOT mean that the user is currently online.
It actually means that the person has been recently active (recently, meaning within the last 24 hours), they can be active for the moment too but you cannot know for sure.
It can be a few hours, it can be minutes, but not more than 24 hours.
If the person hasn’t been active more than 24 hours, then the green dot will not show.
“But me and Gertrude agreed to stop using Tinder, d-does this mean she’s b-been…”
-Yes, that green dot on Gertrude’s profile means she’s been using Tinder within the last 24 hours. And yes, she probably saw your green dot too.
Note: You can see the recently active status of other people, but you can no longer see the recently active status of your matches on Tinder.
Can somebody else see my recently active status?
The answer to that is, yes. Somebody else can see your recently active status.
However, if you don’t want anyone to see your green dot (you mysterious!), here are 5 steps taken from Tinder:
- Open Tinder
- Tap the profile icon
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down and tap into Recently Active Status
- Set “Show Activity Status” toggle to OFF
Green Dot on Likes You
“With Likes You, Tinder lets you see which potential matches have already liked you. Now, you can see which of those potential matches have been Recently Active.”
Taken from Tinder
Very obviously, you get to see if the people who liked you were recently active, so that you can like them back and get a match instantly.
As you may already know, you cannot see the people who like you, unless you’re subscribed to Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum. Instead, you see the green dot and their blurred profile picture.
“Once you’ve subscribed to Tinder Gold or Platinum, you’ll notice a green dot next to the names of any potential matches who’ve been online in the last 24 hours.”

Likes You and the green dot (recently active status)
Likes You is a premium feature on Tinder Gold, and Platinum (you get a lot more premium features besides Likes You).
Tinder Gold and Platinum offer you the opportunity to see the people who like you through the Likes You premium feature.
Now, you can see the green dot on the profile pictures of the people who liked you. It means they’ve been active in the last 24 hours.
It is actually a good thing because you’ll know that the person who liked you, is in fact using the app.
Once again, you cannot know if they’re currently online or not, but you know they’ve been active recently.
If you wish to get Tinder Gold:
To subscribe, open Tinder>tap the profile icon > Settings > Get Tinder Gold.
If you wish to get Tinder Platinum:
Note: At the moment, Tinder Platinum is only available as an upgrade for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold subscribers. To upgrade, open Tinder > tap the profile icon > Settings > Get Tinder Platinum.
Swipe right on them, match instantly, open with an interesting/funny line, knock yourself out!

BUUT, in fact there is no green dot on bumble that indicates whether the user is online or has recently been online.
