Hinge has a cooldown on how frequently you can log in with the same phone number—when you surpass the amount, you will get a “Too many login attempts with given phone number” notification.
But that’s not the only reason, no…Hinge technical issues may also be the trigger or even your phone.
Or even worse, your phone number might have been blacklisted, causing your account to become inaccessible.
Top 4 reasons why Hinge is showing you a “Too many login attempts…” warning.
In true Match Group fashion, Hinge too may experience technical issues from time to time that make it difficult for users to log into their accounts.
1. Your phone number is faulty.
✔️ Solution: Switch to a DatingZest phone number.
Match Group dating apps are getting really smart when it comes to detecting phone numbers from public sources like Google Voice or TextNow.
When you use public phone numbers, you are more prone to not only experiencing bugs, but also getting banned on Hinge because this kind of technology is simply not enough to fool the system.
Your best route? Create a new Hinge account with a better phone number!
DatingZest’s Hinge phone numbers are easy to use, powerful, and most importantly unique.
All you have to do is purchase your DatingZest phone number (which is only $9.95) and access it through the email we send briefly after the purchase.
You sign up with it for a new account on Hinge and then use the code sent to the DatingZest page.
2. You’ve tried logging in one too many times.
✔️ Solution: Wait it out for 24 hours.
Not shocking to hear that why you’re getting a “Too many login attempts” notification is because you’re exhausting the log-in system.
Hinge has a set number of log-in attempts you can try before looking suspicious. Once you overdo it, Hinge will give you a slap on the wrist!
The cooldown lasts around 24 hours as a measure, so you’re better off waiting 24 hours before logging in again.
3. Hinge is currently down.
✔️ Solution: again, wait for the servers to be back up!
Hinge servers may keep you from logging in if they’re experiencing technical issues, especially if the bug is login-related.
Your best shot here is to wait and periodically check Down Detector for when Hinge is back up again.
4. Issues with your device.
✔️ Solution: update your app/clear its cache/delete the app/restart your phone/use another device.
So it’s actually possible for something on your device to be preventing you from signing into your Hinge account:
- An outdated app;
- An overloaded app;
- A buggy device, etc.!
There are multiple solutions IF this is the reason for not being able to log in.
• Update your app. An outdated Hinge app may have a lot of bugs because of it being an older version, which is why you’re seeing “Too many login attempts”.
To combat this, you should update your app through the App Store or Google Play Store (the Update) section.
• Clear the Hinge’s app Cache. “Cache” is the word we use to refer to data that’s stored on your phone after using an application.
You will see the option to do this if you go to your Settings, Apps, Hinge, and then Storage. Doing this might solve the issue because deleting an app’s cache is a troubleshooting method used to eliminate app oddities!
• Delete the app altogether. If simply deleting the cache doesn’t cut it, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app again as it might fix some bugs.
Either press and hold the app on your home screen to delete it, or do it through the Settings → Apps → Hinge → Uninstall (for Android devices).
• Power off your phone. Restarting your phone could potentially erase any bugs related to your device that are stopping you from logging in.
This is the equivalent of giving your phone a breather—to power off your phone, press and hold the power button and the volume one.
Disclaimer: You can also reset your phone, but note that it will delete all data, and we’re not even sure if your phone’s the issue here.
• Try to sign in on another device. If you happen to have a second phone or tablet lying around, try logging in on it.
– If it persists, I say give Hinge Support a go!
Albeit unlikely, you should definitely reach out to the Hinge Support Team if none of the methods work—you can do this here.
You’ll be greeted with a page in which you must describe your problem down to a T. In this context, it should look something like this:
Additionally, specify your basic info (like name, email, and so on) and describe in the box below how you keep getting a “Too many login attempts” prompt whenever you try to sign in.
However, you must be patient if you’re deciding to deal with Hinge as they might take their sweet time responding.
What if your phone was unable to receive Hinge’s SMS Codes…?
I remember making plans with one of my friends one time. I went to the planned spot, waiting for a good hour.
He never showed up. His sister wound up texting me he had changed the meeting spot and couldn’t text me for some reason.
Long story short, I had accidentally blocked him.
To see if you too have made the silly mistake I did back then, go to your Hinge chat on Messages (named 44398) and click on the profile icon on top.
For iPhone users, I saw someone say how toggling iMessages on and off worked for them: Settings → Messages → Toggle iMessages off, and then turn it back on.
Why not try out other login methods as well?
Signing in with your phone number over and over again can be a debacle—you put in your phone number and then wait for a code.
Which is why, for future reference if you ever want to start fresh, you can pick a different login method on top of the phone number one:
- Apple ID;
- Google;
- And Facebook.
This will come in handy if this issue repeats itself.
All the best!
Liam.
